Today I will be making chickpea and spinach spread
also known as hummus.
This is my version of hummus without tahini sauce.
This is a healthy and delicious spread.
You can also use this as a dip.
Homemade hummus is easy to make.
No cooking involved.
Just blend chickpea (garbanzo beans) with other ingredients.
This recipe will make 16 oz of spread.
To make chickpea and spinach spread we will need:
1 15 oz can chickpeas (garbanzo beans or kabuli chana)
If you want to use freshly boiled chickpeas
it should be about 1.5 cups.
They should be soft but not mushy.
1 cup of spinach leaves, remove all the stems.
2 tablespoons of roasted sesame seeds
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 green serrano chillies chopped, adjust to taste.
1.5 teaspoons of salt
And 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Like I said, this is a very easy recipe to make. No cooking involved.
So I will blend the chickpeas, spinach, sesame seeds
with other ingredients together
to make a paste and spread is ready.
So let’s get started.
For this recipe I prefer to use food processor.
So first chickpeas.
Spinach
Lemon juice
Green chillies
Sesame seeds
Salt
Blend it together.
And we will add the oil later on.
So every few seconds you have to stop the food processor
and just clean the sides so it blends evenly.
It's looking very dry.
So I will add couple of spoons of water.
Not too much water, just little bit.
This has been about 1.5 minutes. So let's check it again.
And I have stopped few times in between to just mix it.
So let's see.
It's almost ready.
So I am going to add the olive oil.
And blend it again.
Let's check.
Chickpeas spread is looking really good.
And it's ready to serve.
Chickpea spinach spread looking beautiful.
Very refreshing and has a nice color.
I like to use this as a spread
with crackers, pita bread and it makes a delicious spread for the sandwiches.
I also like to serve this as a dip with vegetables
like carrots, cucumbers and celery.
Either way you serve this dip is very delicious.
